Is this that UK DSL upgrade thing then? or AOL ripping me off?

right, well i've been waiting for this damn AOL contract to finish, a couple of months ago they were trying to get me to upgrade from 1mb ADSL to 2mb ADSL and i would have to re-new the crappy 12 month contract which i dont want. i got an email earlier saying they upgraded it (i didnt ask or anything) to 2mb. they havn't renewed the contract as well have they? or is this part of BT upgrading the lines and stuff?.
i could phone them but im too lazy.

    edit:
just tested the speed, upload is still limited to 256k

As far as i know all dsl connection are capped at 256 Upload...they upgraded the download not upload. services like bulldog and ukonline have higher upload i think.

Yes, i know the upload is capped , i heard that BT was supposed to be doing some upgrades last february though , but i'm not really talking about that right now anyways.
Think they renewed my contact? i didn't sign anything to say that i wanted it to be renewed or upgraded or anything..

Thats what im trying to do, but i'm still in their dodgy contract (ends at the end of july).

I'm not sure if i have been tied into anything since i didn't sign anything again, however, i probably will phone them later after i have spoken to my dad about it.

    wtf

    Dear AOL member,

In February, we informed you that we would be doubling the speed of your AOL Broadband connection from 1mbps to a faster connection of up to 2mbps within the next six months. As you may be aware, you were scheduled to be upgraded in April.

We are very sorry to advise that due to unexpected technical problems, your scheduled upgrade slot has now slipped into May. We apologise for any inconvenience this delay may have caused you. Please be assured we are giving this matter the highest priority and taking every step to ensure that you do not experience any further delays.

For further information please visit AOL Keyword: Speed Upgrade which is constantly being updated with the latest scheduling information.

Once again, we are sorry for this delay and we hope to be able to bring you your new, improved broadband connection speed shortly.

    Kindest regards,

    AOL Broadband Team

Its a free upgrade to 2mb. Since BT started upgrading to 2mb most ISP's have followed. Your contract will not have been altered as this has been implemented by your ISP rather than you asking to be upgraded.

This won't tie you down for a further contract. They are doing this as a gesture of goodwill, and to keep up with competitors. There is no way they can change your contract because of this, and you have not been informed of such a change, so I'd say you're safe.

It's ok once you get the router sorted out, then changing the MTU on all computers to 1400. Then there is just other pratting around. After that it's not that bad.
