    Question For some reason my dialup went 5 times faster but only for a few minutes.

    Wierd, ealier on today I was using kazza lite too download a file using my dialup connection.

    I looked at transfer speed and instead of the usual maximum of 4.0kb/s it was about 20.0kb/s, this wasnt reporting in error either as this file was downloading at lightning speed compared too normal.

    Anyone else had this nice problem, and if so how can i make it happen more frequently.

    It was one of 2 things.
    • Either a glitch and the program locked up for short time and its buffer picked up all the data and you came out a short time later with the bottle neck disipating showing as 20K or;
    • You were downloading some uncompressed data.

    Well i got this all the time it depends on the file formate which you are downloading. sometimes on particular files like .doc's and mdb files from ftp servers you can download @ 20ishk a sec =) not a glitch.

    When I use ssh to transfer files home I get some silly mental speeds that my 1meg cable shouldn't be capable of. It's the compression.
    Certain file types are compressed anyway (eg. jpeg's) so you can't squish them any more than they're already squished!
