ebuyers Router/Modem-Would this be OK to use with AOL

Hi i am on Aol 2mb and i am upgrading from a usb adsl modem to a Ethernet/Router/modem as i understand its a lot safer! But i seem to be getting conflicting advice on which Router to buy as i want to run the set up w/out aol software! I have a 1 pc House with no other future pc's that will be connected so i don't think i'll need a wireless modem. Or do you think otherwise?
Also as i do not have much £ i was thinking of buying a 2nd hand one (Via ebay) as a lot of folks seem to be upgrading from Wired to wireless so good deals to be had. Or would you advise against?
Lastly there looks a cheap one on ebuyer (link below) do you think that will be ok? If not can you ps give advice on a easy to set router that will be ok to use with emule?
    many thanks

    Ebuyer ADSL Router SAMR-4110

    Ello,

The only difference between normal providers and AOL is the MTU which is normally 1458+.

As long as the router supports MTU changing you will have no problems (AOL MTU = 1400).

Tried and tested routers are Netgear, Belkin, 3com and Dlink. I'd recommend a Netgear for a trouble free router

EDIT: afaiks the one youve linked to, doesnt support MTU changing - imho sped the extra and get one thats certain to work.

belkin is doing a couple of wireless model deals that the moment which are very good.
i'd stay away from dlink - I've just had too many issues with them. they're much better at issuing rma's =- but you're left without anything if things go wrong.
I'd agree with the netgear sentiment also/.
however - set up a beefalo for a client the other day - worked well, and was pretty quick - with excellent range. only issue was that latest firmware had to be loaded to fix some wireless issues (couldn't adjust radio settings - i.e. polling and the like) and that was pretty cheap.

So are you saying no to the ebuyer one? Hope not as ther've been reduced to £19.56 from £30

You have a few models to choose from, depends wether you want wireless or not.

    Linkage:

Netgear DG632 - wired router, single 10/100 lan port and 1 x USB

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=62293

    Netgear DG834 - wired router 4 x 10/100 ports - no USB

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=52754

    Netgear DG834G - wireless router 4 x 10/100 ports - 54G Wireless (54Mbs)

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=52244

    Netgear DG834GT - wireless router 4 x 10/100 ports - 108Mbs Wireless (108Mbs)

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=83435

Remember you could always add a switch to the single port router at a later date if and when you need more ports.
