I've just bought a PCI card (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=31095) and a 2m crossover cable (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=43773) from ebuyer, in each case the cheapest they do. OK, I've only had them a week, but they work so far. Two of those cards and 2m cable would be about £8 + VAT + shipping; the longer cables probably aren't much more, and neither is a good branded card like the D-Link (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=43684), which has been working fine in another computer here for a couple of months now.

    Thumbs up

I have bought quite a few of the 530TX DLink cards & never had a single problem. They work great in XP too.

For normal home use the cheapest ones ebuyer sell are fine. Most cards around £10 or less use the same Realtek or SIS chipset anyway.

I have put dozens of the Dlink 530 TX into computers without a problem. Cheap and reliable The only time I have had a problem was when I had to use the DOS drivers bleh which I doubt you will ever do I ended up using the chip specific drivers rather than the card drivers (Via Rhine) .

I've always used the £4 ones from ebuyer, use the Realtek 8139 chipset, never had any problems with that and they always work without extra drivers on any OS i've used. Except for maybe Win 98..

My mate bought some real cheap ones from ebuyer, they were about £3, and they work brilliantly. You really don't need to pay much.

The more expensive you get, your either paying more simply because is a brand name, it uses 'better' components, or it has extra features such a Wake on lan.
