    Bt **up {rant}

    Found out yesterday that BT messed up and changed my number! found out the hard way when my wife called me during the day saying internet don't work. went home tried to fix it and called my ISP and they said to do the usual reset router, input these settings etc etc. last thing they told me was to completely disconnect my router from the pone line and when they told me have i dont it yet and i kept insisting i have, they said i have not as according to their system a router is still connected to my number?

    i then checked my pone line and dialed from my landline to my mobile and to my amazement some random number appeared! i was like WTF man? whats this crap? This aint my number! i then called my real number and some random old lady picked up!

    Anyways i managed to call BT and they said they must have switched my connection by accident in one of the exchange and that they will hopefully try to fix it within the next 3 days. man i was fuming on the phone and so was my missus.

    Blooming unacceptable this is. Guy i spoke to on BT said that had i not told them the fault, they would no have known is it worth calling my ISP and telling them this new update?

    Well I assuming you are using an ISP that piggy backs down your BT line as opposed to BT themselves.

    Calling your ISP at this stage would serve no real purpose since they do not have control of the line.

    Just wait for BT to put your number right and then the internet should just fall in line.

    If not then would be the time to call your ISP back.

    I would also try to demand some form of compensation from BT for the lost services of the period of time it is out since it was their screw up. You may only get a slightly reduced bill but it's still something.

    Re: Bt **up {rant}

    Worth telling them, but probably not worth getting them to update the records.

    BT could fix it by swapping back the physical line pair (probably what happened in the first place - and if you have ever seen the main distribution frame in a large exchange, or even the df in a roadside cabinet, you would see how easy that would be) or remap the physical line number to the correct number.

    3 days is the 'standard' time, you may find it is quicker than that.

    I would be looking to get in touch with your ISP to get your 3 days (or whatever it ends up being) of payments back for your internet (they should recover this cost from BT, or will just absorb it), and then getting on to BT for a rebate for your line rental.

    It will end up being about £3 or so but its the principle of it - and as tesco tell us constantly, every little helps

    I would suggest that the time wasted chasing up your £3 refund will work out more than the £3 you will get back, and i don't know about you but my time is worth more than £3 for what potentially could be hours of chasing.
