Hi There,
Right. Wireless ADSL routers. I have a at home (A fairly hefty efficient networks effort). At my company office we have a 3com one. At a client's office they have a belkin.
ALL of these routers crash fairly regularly when wireless is enabled. Crash as in either lock up and need a power cycle, or just randomly reboot.
Is this just bad luck on my part or are other people experiencing this sort of thing?

not seem them reboot as such , just decide that they dont fancy serving any wireless signal.
its completly random - I've use expensive Buffalo kit and cheap belkin kit and they are as bad ( or as good ) as each other.
i'd agree with moby-dick - i've got an old linksys which has never crashed and never had any problems. i've given it to my dad since it's so reliable
My d link router never has much trouble unless im messing about with it. Im running two wireless Pcs 1 etherneted one and a PS2 off it. Never had it freeze reboot or anything like that.
My linksys WRT54G has been stable as rock for over a year now.
Seconded, got about 6 months uptime on it at the moment, no problems, even in the recent heat.Quote:

I've had a cheapo ebuyer one, a fairly expensive Dlink one, and finally another not cheap 3com one, and a mate has had a netgear one.. They all crash, at random, usually when you're only a couple of minutes from finishing a download, or about to get a great kill on a game or something..
I've come to the conclusion that virtually all consumer wifi adsl routers are utter crap..
I'm inches away from saying screw it and ordering a cisco..

My Linksys WAG54G was the cause of inconsistent, frequent complete wireless cut-offs from my ADSL connection about 2 months ago.
Just couldn't handle many connections from my machines, despite there being only 3 max connected at any one time.
I would like to find a more stable, and capable wi-fi router, i hate having to slow myself down at client-end just because the router can't handle it
I've had pretty good results with several users with the 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless ADSL router, and that's not exorbitant - £63 currently and with either a free PCMCIA card or free USB2 wireless adapter.
I've had problems with old SMC and USRobotics wireless routers locking up regularly.
But I now have 2 x USR Wireless Turbo Multi-Function Access Points (acting as a bridge) and a USR Wireless Turbo Access Point & Router.
I've had no problems at all. The access point is lightly used, but the bridged pair are used constantly for extending my broadband connection upstairs.
The connection is fine for online games (HL2DM), they are effectively an invisible ethernet cable, totally transparent in use, 100% reliable, no lags, no snags, no problemo.
I have a D-link router that will not let me view web pages from time to time (aparently a DNS problem) but a restart fixes it, apart from that I've had no bother.
I have a BT Voyager 2100 and this weekend I discovered that my uncles car alarm system causes the wireless part of it to stop working when he's parked outside. It's one of those alarms that makes a noise when you go near the car. It started working again as soon as he moved the car away from the house, maybe this could cause similar problems from time to time for other people if someone parks nearby.
