    file sharing between pcs

    i have a laptop and a desktop here, both runing xp home. I have a router. How do i share files between them?

    is there a program that can do it, some sort of ftp thing, i have no idea, the windows network connection didnt seem to work

    (Sorry if some of this is obvious, just making sure!)

    1) Have you actually shared something on both computers?
    2) Can you access the router/ go out on the internet on both of them?
    3) Have you tried disabling the firewall?

    Right, i conect to the internet wirelessly on the laptop and wired through the desktop.
    I can not access the router on the laptop by doing 192.168.0.1. (I can on the desktop)
    I have a firewall but there is nothing setup so didabling it wouldnt help.

    Check the wireless security settings on the router. Have you got wireless security setup? Perhaps the router prevents wireless connecton from logging in to it for security reasons. i.e someone in the street with a laptop.

    If you goto view workgroup computers can they see each other? When yous set the network up did you put them both on the same thing, MSHOME normally.

    create a network boot disk on the one that sees everything i.e. the other comps. then run that on the others.
