If this guy has the money to afford CheckPoint then I'd offer my services to do a personal installation

CheckPoint licencing is hellishly expensive, not for your your typical home user installation

A NAT router and any personal firewall that takes your fancy is sufficient for most home users.

The NAT protects your LAN from all unsolicited traffic, unless you explicitly give it a port forwarding rule to an internal server, or have a DMZ configured.

The personal firewall is to stop your machine talking OUT if you get any dodgy malware on there.

    Kerio Personal Firewall.

The code for Tiny Personal Firewall (which was free) has been updated into KPF. Admittedly I've not used it for any LAN stuff yet, but I'd advise you to give it a try before ZA, as it's been far less problematic and is still free for personal use.
