    Bt 2mb BB - capped?

Just wondering out of curiosity if there's any cap on the new bt 2mb *word filter sigh* BB service.
Currently on ntl with i believe a 35gb monthly usage allowance on a 2mb down line for £25 a month.
I wouldn't begrudge BT the extra fiver if they could offer me uncapped service or better content etc.
Not had any probs with ntl so far though, and sometimes bt can be a bit unsturdy.

What I am about to say, I'm really not sure about, so feel free to correct me!

I think that all internet bandwidth must now be paid for by the ISP by the GB. As such, the 1% of users that download huge amounts of data cause the costs to rise by a massive amount. Therefore, the service is capped, which affects only 1% of customers, and saves the ISP plenty of money. At least, that's what I have been told - it could well be wrong. As such, most ISPs have a cap on their normal deals.

BT have caps for anyone joining the service now, 15gig for the 'cheaper' 2meg service and 30gig for the £30 a month 2meg service

Anyone who is currently in a contract with them will have caps from the next few months - but that hasnt affected me yet (according to BT my line isnt capped atm )

That said I would avoid BT like the plague, and any other ISP that caps. Capped broadband limits the effective speed, someone worked it out to be something like an effective 10kb/s instead of 220 kb/s when you take into account the caps...its stupid

I'm moving to UK online, finally got an activation date 8meg for £30 a month with a 500gig cap is very very nice 500gig cap would be very hard to hit...

theres also a 30GB cap of a 2MB broadband service from BTYahoo. I do agree that it is a little crap but even though i do quite a but of downloading i think i only hit about 12GB a month no more, so its perfect.

Surely 30GB's a month is more than enough for the average user, the only people that seem to get upset by caps are those who probably illegaly download new films/games/music from America 24x7, and since they are breaking the law, they have no reason to complain.

I know a local rep for these guys and I wouldn't recommend them. Im sure there were a few customers that were using the 'unlimited' connection to its potential (and as advertised) - only to be cut off by the ISP for excessive usage...
