    MAC Addresses

I have just got a Linksys AP and plugged it into my router. I've added WEP and changed passwords, IPs e.t.c. to everything I want.

Two questions... I am not in a town and there are no people unless going war driving who would come across the network as our village is not compact and there are mostly oldish people who have never touched a computer.

So.... should I bother with MAC addresses and hiding the SSID or should I leave it as it is?

I consider neither of those extra security, in the case of MAC address filtering you introduce administrative overhead and with SSID broadcast disabling you can break the ability of XP clients to locate the WLAN automatically.

Anyone that could crack WEP would be able to spoof a MAC & find your SSID without any difficulty.

    Quite... what I thought

I wasn't going to even bother with WEP, but bearing in mind I have www.matt-dickins.co.uk/networkpenetration.htm and know how easy it is to crack stuff it's just another barrier to make me feel slightly more safe.

Dont bother. hiding you SSID and MAC address does nothing for someone that really wants to get in. kismit will pick everything up even if its hidden.
