hi i got a free d link 2.ghz card from a m8t , also i have to move pc upstairs into bedroom, was wondering wether i should get a b or g router also which one to go for the cheaprst i have seen is on ebyuer for £20 ish thats the b, im on imb ntl , was gonna be using it for surfing also torrenting nzb's etc which one should i go for? i havent got any laptops etc, so whic one cheap and cheerfull or new tech? thnx for lookin etc
g = 54MB speed
b = 11MB speed
If you aren't doing file sharing over the network for larger files then b is fine.

But id say get the G version now to save you hassle and having to upgrade in future.

I use b, but all I'm doing on that is internet. Otherwise g if files across network (use my wires for that).
B is fine for games and browsing, G. is fine for streaming movies and sharing movies across computers. Definitely invest in G. for the main routere and as much as you can.
Dont most routers nowerdays, apart form the cheap ones do both?

ADSL speeds continue to increase and soon B will be redundant as your net connection will be faster.
Also worth noting that 11Mbps B rating is the maximum achievable if moving upstairs and you have laminate floors, metal pipes, an RSJ etc. in the way you may find the speed drops alarmingly.
Personally I've never found WiFi that reliable between floors and have now invested in a Highspeed Homeplug system. You can pick cheap 14Mbps homeplugs up for under £20 and they would be more reliable than a WiFi B standard (IMHO).

Around £120 delivered which sounds expensive!
For the slower 11MBps I have the SMC version which I bought from Expansys a while back (don't think it's still available), an Acer version can be found for around £20 per unit for example:

You'll obviously need a minimum of 2 units!

g is 22 Mb/s native but uses some compression techniques to get up to 54Mb/s throughput. You are unlikely to see that speed unless you are close to the router/access point, but as the price difference is minimal, go for g!
