Problems with a wireless and a wired router and file sharing etc..

Ok. First up here's what i have:

    1. Netgear DG834 wired ADSL router, with connections to 2 PCs and an XBOX.

    2. Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router

    3. Laptop with Wireless Intel

Ok, I've connected the WRT54G to the netgear with a cable. The netgear's IP address is 192.168.0.1, it has DHCP enabled and a mask of 255.255.255.0
The WRT54G has an IP of 192.168.1.1, DHCP enabled and a mask of 255.255.255.0 and it's given the laptop the address of 192.168.1.100. I've disabled the built-in firewall on the WRT54G, the laptop has no firewall either. All computers are a member of a workgroup called 'LADS'

Now, whilst i can surf i *cannot* otherwise access shares on the LAN. Filesharing is enabled and everything _other_ than the latop can see each other. I confess I know very little about the plumbing of networking.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Can you see the other machines on the network group?

They'll all need to be on the 192.168.0.* group to see eachother.

Let the DG834 give out the DHCP leases and leave it with the IP 192.168.0.1, turn off DHCP on the WRT54G, and assign it a static IP of 192.168.0.2, and i'm guessing the WRT54G is only for the wireless and not the router part?

To be honest you are probably best off assigning all machines a static i.p.

BlackDwarf is correct to some extent as well, it helps having them in the same group....however it can be worked around. Best keep things simple though i think.

Also ensure they are all in the same workgroup.

Ok as is the DG834 is giving the WRT54G an IP of 192.168.0.3 via DHCP, but the WRT54G has a setting for it's own, wireless visible IP of 192.168.1.1 which is what the laptop sees. I'll try killing DHCP on the WRT54G and seeif the netgear DG834 gets to hand out a IP for the laptop in the 192.168.0.x range (which i agree might make it work)

Ok, that's easy enough to do (static) and they're already in the same IP. All I want is for the WRT is just to act as a dumb router forwarding all ports and not buggering about with IPs

    I'll have a fiddle tonight!
