No network places - what've i done wrong?

Ok, i decided to try to set up a network between mine and my parent's computers so we could share the printer and the internet connection etc..

All seemed to go through fine but today i wanted to share some documents and noticed that i have no "network places" option in my start menu to view their shared folder although they do and can access anything i put in my shared folder. i'm sure i set them both up as share files and printer in the network setup wizard, so what do you think i've i done wrong?

    thanks

if you just want to get to network places, you can either go to network connections and click on the link in bottom left (the 'go to' menu). Or to have it as an option on the start menu, right click the start menu, properties, customize, advanced and then tick the network places box.

    Hope that helps,

    Phil

sorry, i should have explained better, i'd found a way to get to network places but when there, it is empty, no shared folders are shown at all, unlike on their pc which shows both my shared folder and their shared folder, i've double checked on their pc that the folder is set to be shared but still nothing. i have no idea what i've done wrong. i think i'll just try erasing both network connections and try again once they've gone to bed, unless i get any other suggestions.

a bit more info you may need, my pc has the modem connected to it and supplies them with their internet connection, which works fine, so does the fact that i can send files to them as they can view my shared folders. they have the printer in that room and i'm unable to use their printer or view their shared folders in my network space. this is my first ry at networking by the way. haha

    thanks
