    Aramiska - VPN

Ok this is a long shot.

Anyone here have a windows 2000 server running as a VPN host behind an aramiska internet connection?

I cant get the b*stard thing to work, and I am not totally convinced it is my fault.

Nope... but give us the problems and we'll see if we can't crack it

Thats the problem, there is very little I can configure myself but.... here goes and I am sorry, it is long and boring...

    Code:
    SERVER
      |
     HUB --- My Work PC
      |
    Aramiska
      |
    Satellite
      |
    t'Internet - Outside line - Laptop(dialup)
      |
    My PC at home
Right I have setup our windows 2000 server to accept incoming VPN connections. Locally it works, as in, when I set up my work PC as a VPN client it can connect to the Server as I'd expect. The aramiska box is set to forward PPTP connections to the Server. The laptop is also set up as a VPN client, but this time I point it to the Aramiska Box's external IP address expecting all information to get forwarded to the Server, but it doesn't, there is no sign of a rejection on the server or the laptop either, just a no response message. The laptop uses dialup to connect to the internet, and a tracert to the aramiska box shows results, so it can see it. I set my PC at home up as a VPN client too, same results as the laptop.

Aramiska support say the server is configured incorrectly and their logs would seem to show the aramiska box is trying to talk with the server, but getting no response, note, these are attempts they have done themselves.

So plan B, I run PPTPSRV.exe on my work PC, which acts as a PPTP server. It basically sits there and waits for a response on port 1723. Internally, running PPTPCLNT.exe (client) on another machine and pointing it in the direction of my work PC, a connection is made. I set up the aramiska box to point PPTP traffic to my work PC, which is sitting there running the PPTPSRV.exe. With the Laptop, I dialup to the internet and point the PPTPCLNT.exe software in the direction of the external address of the Aramiska box, no luck. :/

I leave the PPTPSRV.exe running on my work PC and e-mail the client software to aramiska support to give it a try. It works, a connection is made! This doesn't make much sense, so Aramiska Support can connect to it, but my Laptop cannot. Running an NMAP on external Port 1723 (PPTP) of the aramiska box shows it as a filtered port (IE its letting some information through, but not all). This screams to me, that information that isn't from aramiska support is allowed through on that port, but anything else is rejected. I tell them this, but they insist that it is down to server configuration issues! >:/

I have even gone to the length of setting up a new windows 2000 server from scratch and following a guide by aramiska support to the letter, but still the same.

We have very little control over the Aramiska box, and I mean very little (probably because it is rented hardware), we do not even get to see the logs, there is nothing there that I can reconfigure myself that will make a change.

Can you think of anything else that I could try, to get some information? Thanks!
