theres 1 on the router, but never caused probs in past

Tried swapping the RJ-45 cable's round. If it's not even pinging sounds like it's not connected, which could be a cable problem.
-
i can ping it from either pc, but i can connect to the i-net threw this 1, so i doubt its a cable problem. :/

What OS you running?
If you're running 2k/XP, click start run, cmd (enter)
pathping www.bbc.co.uk
It will try to ping the beeb, but shows every response along the way.
Whilst you're at it. do an IPconfig /all and right down what it outputs.
If PC#2 can connect to the net and ping the router, but PC#1 can't ping the router then you've some connectivity issues.

Some basic questions that you've probably already considered:- You have tested more than one app - i.e. more than just the web browser such as email client / messenger client etc?
- Both computers can seach each other on the network and can transfer files?
- You have tried setting the network card up with a manual i.p. on the same subnet and set the default gateway to the routers internal i.p?
I'ed use the 'working' PC to turn the routers firewall off whilst you are trying stuff.

ok..
I've turned all the f/w's off.
I can ping the Router from both pc's, but can connect to the i-net threw neither.
I have a static MAC/physical address, but this isnt shown on the router and its giving me another 1, which i dont use.
At best, ive been able to connect to the router's HTML pages from both pc's but cant connect to the i-net at all.
the status screen on router just says "Disconnected" when i click it.
I've had to resort to using old pc, and direct Broadband non-routed. i could run any apps from pc2 trickle.
I couldnt ping anything (that url included) from upstairs Jiff.

ok, so i got my router working downstairs, but ive broke the pins in my monitor cable. great fun, i cant ping connect to any url with the hardware f/w on either :E
