Draytek Vigor 2600 is rocking my world

Thanks in no small part to Jiff and Moby, who both told me in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS that these routers rock....I got one (on Ebay from the US....took an age to get here, but its here, UK spec and working a treat)

Now without sounding TOO dense, I could not work out how to use the built in USB printer port, so that I could use it as a print server.

BUT Drayteks website is top top stuff. Screen shot guide, sorted

Later on (this millenium) I'll try to understand what else it does...this menu is LOADED with stuff.

But port throttling looks ace for bandwidth sensitive online gaming.

This thing has LOADS of stuff: ADSL Spectrum Analysis no idea how to use it, but I got a pretty graph
NAT active sessions tables (I guess for the PC's on the router that grabbed an IP from it dishing them out)

    oh hell...look

    PPPoE / PPPoA Diagnostics
    >> Triggered Dial-out Packet Header
    >> View Routing Table
    >> View ARP Cache Table
    >> View DHCP Assigned IP Addresses
    >> View NAT Port Redirection Running Table
    >> View NAT Active Sessions Table
    >> ADSL Spectrum Analysis

theres LOADS of toys and we all love toys

Oh how you do make me laugh Zak

I got one spare i need to sell actually. Still sealed. Got a bit carried away

They are excellent routers, using one in our house with 3 students. Splits the bandwidth fairly between us . Just got to figure out how to make the gaming priority thing work.

Ok, thats me decided then. Been trying to figure out which Wireless Router with DSL modem to get, gonna find a Draytek one, and if they dont have one with a DSL router, I'm gonna get one anyway and plug an ethernet modem into the thing.

    They do sound pretty schweeet.

EDIT: Can anyone explain the differences between the 2600's, the V,VG,VGI thing? Theres tonnes

I'm getting fed up with my router locking up requiring a complete power-down and restart to fix it (3com jobbie).

    I'm either looking at a Draytek 2600G, or a Cisco 857W..

So many models to choose from, several different types of 2600, several of the 2900,damn its confusing

    EDIT: Thanks rough Neck.

Just reading the features on their website and noticed this:

"Class-based bandwidth guarantee by user-defined traffic categories."

    another convert

imo unless you can afford cisco , the draytek is the one to go for

THE G refers to be itbeing a wireless capable one , and the V means it has a VOIP port ( Draytek has always been keep on VOIP , but I've not played with it )

The 2600G is basically ADSL router + print server + wireless, the rest have either ISDN capability, VOIP ports or are cable routers thus needing a cable modem to connect to them.

What type of broadband do you have ADSL or Cable?

    Edit: what Moby said .

Ah, DSL here, need none of that stuff myself. Just an ADSL modem and wireless router that won't give me hell when trying to set it up, and one that'll work without doing stuff to it every day.

What wireless cards are you all using? Draytek don't seem to have any. Oh, and sorry if I took over the thread

as 2600G will rock your world then if you want it all in one box.

if you really want the best of both worlds , then use a 2600+ as a DSL router and then buy seperate Wireless access point(s) so you can place them in the best position for your WLAN, not just where your phone point is.

Does an AP just sit in a better place then the modem/router and relay the signal further? A reciever and transmitter?

yes. A wireless router is just a combined router and access point

positioning of wireless kit is quite important for the best signal ( away from power cables / microwave / any other of the number of things which can affect a wireless signal. )

Ok then, decided. Best place to get one? Convincing old people with plastic they need a £160 router could be hard. Anywhere got 'em cheap?
