Bridging Networks

Hi,

I currently have a small home network that consists of a server, 2 PC's, 2 laptops and an Xbox all connected via an ADSL modem/router/firewall and a gig switch. Both the laptops have wireless and I would like to set this up. I don't have a wireless access point or wireless router yet nor can I afford to buy one at the moment. One of the laptops has a cracked screen so is not used anymore, can I setup the wireless on this one and use it to bridge the connection with my wired network and then use my other laptop to wirelessly connect to my network and the internet?

Sorry if this sounds like an obvious question but I've not done any wireless networking yet and it's something that I want to learn.

You need to start the process by setting up an ad-hoc wireless (as opposed to infrastructure) connection between your laptops. Then you may be able to create a network bridge on the damaged laptop to merge the wireless and wired networks.

Wireless can be very problematical at times so I suggets you get google out and find some good sites

You MIGHT be able to do this - along the lines suggested above, but for the cost, I think I'd shell out £20 or £30 for an Access point.
