Nope. Go and check the ADSLguide forums. They booted a load of users for the same.

Plusnet is really nice for low usage users. It seems to me that no ISP in UK like the heavy users. I used 170g on my 512K ADSL 4 years ago and BT never say a thing. Now if you use more than 100g/mo, ISPs threaten to "manage" your line. When the bandwidth cost is going down in other countries, out bandwidth cost gets higher

P.S. You're not paying for the real premium service. Plusnet's so-called premium service is just "Premium light user service". They'll just tell u to get those 5:1 or 1:1 ADSL instead if you want to download that much.

Or you could join Pipex Xtreme Solo 1MB like I did, its a little pricey at £23.99 (£14.99 for the first three months) but at least there are no port restrictions, no bandwith capping and definitely no monthly download allowances.

I've heard they manage your bandwith, but I haven't noticed any slowdown in up / or download speeds...

yep, i am moving away from Plusnet for these very reasons.

Says unlimited on the tin but bittorent traffic is shaped meaning linux isos take ages to download, peak times it slows to a crawl and use more than 100gb and they manage your connection.

Game pings are hopeless as well.

Im looking for a 2mb line or faster and would pay up to £35 a month to get it as long as the speeds were good and they didnt bug me for using too much. When i pay for unlimited i expect unlimited. Thats what it says on their contract and if they wish to go further then they can go right ahead but they can expect alot of letters. Its easier to switch isp's Nowadays anyway.

I used to be with BT and they never gave me any grief at all about how much i was using. Wish i hadnt left them now.

If you are willing to pay that much i would suggest taking a look at zen or eclipse as they offer 2mb uncapped for around that price or cheaper. They both get great reviews on adslguide. With no caps and no traffic shapping nonsence if you download to much.

Game pings are hopeless? On UK servers on BF2 my ping hovers at 18-20ms. I don't find that hopeless?

My steam pings from the server tend to be ~70 and in game closer to 200.

So yes, pretty useless.

I migrated from BT to Nildran (when BT introduced caps) and then to Pipex (when Nildran introduced caps).

So, yes you can. BUT, I am currently looking to move away from Pipex as they are the most underhanded as they have a management policy and part of their policy is they do not tell you when you have been indentified as a heavy user......so you have no idea if any slowness your are experiencing is down to heavy net traffic or the fact Pipex have decided to 'manage' your connection.

Cool, im looking @ their 1Mbps, BT now say my line can't support 2Mbps, which im sure is the reason for my connection dropping all the time

I do find that Plusnet's implementation of the SUP (30GB Peak traffic & 100GB total) to be a bit draconian.

Heavy users are the new leprosy of the ISP world - the cause? BT and its stupid CBC charging.

ISP's cannot sustain heavy users anymore, think of it from business terms - 1 user using 200GB per month 'may' cost an ISP approximately £150 - usually this type of user would be subsidised by lots of light users - as P2P has grown, the ratio of med-heavy users has increased.

ISP's cannot keep lighting up new pipes to cover the extra bandwidth as eventually they would go out of business - hence the new 'traffic management' approach many ISP's are taking.

Im with PN and may use approximately 60-80GB a month, I clearly fall under the SUP limits - I schedule any downloads 'off peak' and get on with my happy life - because of referrals I pay less than £17 a month for PN's BB Premier package, which is great value.

Two other ISP's that are taking this approach are Tiscali and Pipex with virtually all soon to follow.

Unfortunately theres very few ISP's currently with high/no limits - even these I would say will implement some type of 'traffic management' in the future.

Our only saviour? Cheaper BT central charges or LLU.

If you use lots of bandwidth, you will have to pay for it - Zen is one I'd recommend.

(before the flames start - we'll have no 'but I signed up to unlimited etc etc' - this argument has been done to death on various forums).
