network settings keep disappearing

Have 2 pc's connected up to a network via a router and share the internet connection this way.
I share the music on 1 pc with the other via the network. Only prob is, the shared folders in my network places(I share my music folder) keeps disappearing. Sometimes it's fine but occasionally it keeps disappearing. I run the network setup wizard(both pc's on XP) on both pc's and normally this sorted it. This time however, it didn't work and it is really starting to annoy me.

Any ideas why it keeps disappearing(my router is on default settings and normally this works ok)?

Because windows is a massive pile of crap, we have the same issue on our network, only reliable solution weve found is to put each pc in its own workgroup and get to it that way, which is a joke

you probably dont have any decent name resolution on your network ( even down to a host file level )

if you dont have a local DNS server , get your machines on static IP and use a host file entry.
Its not a windows problem at all , your just trying to rely on broadcast name resolution , which isn't very good at the best of times.
