Smile OK - So im downloading this file right.....

OK, so there i am quite happily downloading a few bits and bobs from here and there, when i discover i need a 115mb file (game patch or something). So i go to the appropriate website, select my chosen mirror site - which happens to be in kent (im in essex) and start the download. Previously - as i was on a 4mb connexion i was expecting it to take in the region of five minutes to complete. Which is pretty quick.

However, as i sit there watching it i notice the speed rising rapidly, starting at 220k/sec, then 300, then 400 then getting to 900k/sec and finally peaking at 1.1mb/sec. 95 seconds later the file has completely downloaded.

Thats a rediculous speed - i dont get that with our fixed link lines at work or any of the clients we work for.

Blueyonder rule - 10mb connexion for no extra cost - i love you!

Dunno what lines your clients use, but they sound pretty rubbish.

A few months ago after just getting 512DSL(its the fastest I can get in my area) I felt like it was dead fast. Now I compare 60KB/s to 1.1MB/s..and cry

hehe 1mb for me was a nice step up from 512 even thought it did mean sacrificing my router because it cant keep line synk any more but thats now become a switch and ive set up a server for running my internet connection etc.
i find with 1mb i can multi task on the internet alot more than i could with 512,
e.g can watch a high qaulity stream and still download at 70kbps or more..

    Exactly.....

i remember starting broadband on 512k line - i remember the first time a download reached 64k/sec i was amazed. Then i moved, got 1mb line and was amazed yet again. whilst 512 is plenty, having more sure does open up the ability to download whilst watch streaming stuff, or play online games etc.
