    Connection speed?

    HEy guys,

I got a 8mb bulldog connection, and the max i get on p2p downloads is about 400kbs and up is 50kbs tops. When i download from ftp or http i can get speeds up to a meg.

I'm thinking that my upload speed is really slow? What should it be? And how can i find out how much the line can take? And is it possible to upgrade it?

    Sorry for all the questions!
    Thnx!!

Theoretical maximum of an 8 megabit line is 1 megabyte per second, as 1byte = 8 bits. But then you have packet overheads and stuff, so you'll rarely see anything above about 90% of your full speed.

also, you wont get nearly as much on the upstream as in the downstream, as your service provider doesn't want u clogging the upstream with uploads!!!

For every 100k of download you need about 5~10k of upload for ack packets, probably more. Since you are uploading as well as downloading when using P2P, basically it is impossible to download more than 400KB/s with just a 50KB/s upload. (Except you want to be uploading nothing on a P2P network which makes you a pure leecher)

I only got 2M ADSL and 200KB/s P2P download takes away 15KB/s of my upload.
