    Question FTP Server Timeout

    I've made an FTP server using filezilla server. However, when either me, or anyone else has tried to connect to it through a client, it just times out. Any ideas why?

    * I've tried IE and filezilla client to connect to it.
    * Port 21 has been forwarded to my router.
    * I can connect to it through http://web2ftp.com/

    The fact that I can connect to it through that site, but not through a client seems very strange to me. I've also had the same problem with the cerberus server, but I switched to filezilla as it seems better .

    Try fiddle between PORT/PASV mode?
    Some basic ftp server doesn't check/have the option for NAT. So they throw out the LAN IP which the client can't connect.

    Yes, but it works with the site I showed above, and I'm sure that does it using the WAN address. I should also point out I'm using a DNS name incase it makes any difference.

    When i made a FTP server useing that Cerbuers client, it seemed to timeout on IE, but was fine with a proper FTP program like CuteFTP. I'm not sure why but it just was.

    try the command line version. (ftp localhost)

    then, check firewall and routing settings, some clients are more forgiving on timeouts. Some will auto-reconnect.
    throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)

    Well, I can logon using the command line too.

    What works:
    * http://web2ftp.com/
    * Command line
    * CuteFTP

    What doesn't:
    * IE
    * Fillezilla client

    Still not sure why.

    I supose if the FTP software isnt top notch the respose times may be to slow for IE or Fllezilla... I think trying something else, like an apatche server is a good idea.

    Well, I just tried using a previous version of filezilla to connect, and that works fine. Just looks like some work and some don't.

    there are some other good webserver packages around that offer FTP capabilities. The chances are that they wont interfear with your Oracle install.

    Have you tried using IE to FTP throught to your computer via another computer on your network? (btw for this you use the local i.p of your machine otherwise the request may be sent to your computer via t'internet)
