I think the router they are offering is fine, but it's not good forcing people to buy it from them. They should advise people that they recommend buying the router from ukonline.

I heard that the customer services is not good. Take a look at adslguide.org and compare them to other big isp's.

Not by much though. I was expecting a big leap in upload speeds with the new adsl to be honest.

    From 256 its triple

The same jump from 8 to 24mb

If you think about it - its no more stingy than a 8mb line with only a 256 upload

Even though it is the same ratio as standard ADSL it could make a huge difference in some situations. You'd be doing well to saturate a 24mbit connection with a single download, even 8mbit is pushing it a lot of the time. But uploading at the full 768kbit would be quite feasable. So the percieved increase in speed could be a lot greater.

I am suprised Truro hasnt been LLU enabled yet - because its a fairley big place - iam sure it will be soon enough.

I had a quick check and your nearest LLU exchange is here in bournemouth
shame the certain exchange iam on doesnt support LLU - but will be ADSL2+ enabled in march.

I stuck in an order for this the moment I moved house last week (it was good timing on UK Online's part, I phoned up to order 8mbit and they said the top one was 24mbit now ). It's still not in, though, but that isn't UK Online's fault, their customer service has been very helpful thus far (better than post-Pipex Nildram, it has to be said). BT have decided that despite the fact i changed the number so it wouldn't happen, there's still BT ADSL on the line for them to remove in their usual dead-slow fashion. In fairness, I should say once I've managed to speak to BT staff (sometimes after a very long wait indeed), they've all been helpful.

However, my install isn't expected until some point next week now. That's going to be three weeks without an internet connection at home. It's not doing much for my productivity at work, this...

However your distance from the exchange will decide what speed of ADSL2+ you get. I mean not everyone is going to get 24MB down and 768 up. If u arent rite besdie the exchange you could see half of that etc etc. I read about it on adslguide and ppl were saying that none of them have actually got the top speed yet and the upload speed is not noticibly faster.

if this type of product isn't proof that P2P isn't a viable option for distrobution then i don't know what will be!

Might seam a bit off topic, but now so many exchanges are ADSL2+ enabled, its quite a intresting problem. Say your been billed on the 99th percentile, a lot of hosts are, people can't afford to let someone spike at 24mbit.

Bit-torrent, and avalanche (much better than BT), aren't going to be the awnser, P2P might finally be allowed to goto sleep.

well by looking at your location iam assuming your on somthing uber like 1gb "connecion"(said in a japanese styley o rry?)

only thing that concerns me is the 256kbps upload, Because i find if iam uploading fast it seriously effects my download speeds, it may not even be because the upload speed is 256k - I am not sure why this happens but it does and when you have massive amounts of data following down youve then got this bottleneck upload, to be honest though if i had 24mb connection i wouldnt be complaining !

I'm still waiting for them to get around to installing this in my place, it's a long time to go without any internet connection at all (moved in on the 10th), and I've still not got a proper activation date. I suppose it would have been the same whatever I tried to get (as apparently BT had a record of some other ADSL product on the line despite me getting them to give me a new number and clear the old one before I moved in).

I'm still thinking that 24Mbit will be worth it, but I'll have to get something slower if this carries on much longer...
