    Excuse me, Mr. Webhost.

I'm developing a site that runs in PHP and MySQL; No problem there.

However I have two parts of the site that both require the use of the imagettftext() function in PHP to genreate images (Page logo and user verification scripts), so I went an e-mail to my host asking for it to be installed.

The reply I get is "No, probably not, I don't see a need for it".

SO I reply, "I am a paying customer, I need it."

And the next response is "So? Try and ask a company like EasySpace to install it for you. They won't either."

    So what's my next move?

Actually I believe this requires both the GD & FreeType library - which the host I use (www.3dpixelnet.com) supplies ...

i'm surprised at them not having freetype (and i'd be astonished about gd)

What are my rights on a refund from my current host?

I paid up front for a year, but am only just starting my second month.

There seems to be no "no refunds" policy on their site I can see.

if them not providing that library is a breach of contract then mabye you can get a refund.

I can understand cheap hosts not wanting to let you use the image libraries, there not exactly speedy.

Depends what their initial terms were. Were you notified of a right to cancel, or any kind of cool-off period?

I use dreamhosts my self, they're pretty flexible, and cheap, and give you a 97 day cancellation period. (why 97 i've no idea).

Well pretty much nothing was said. I know the guy (Aquaintance more than friend), and he has a few dedicated servers and runs the hosting company so just paid him upfront for the year in cash.

Can I just tell him i want a refund for the remaining ten months?

I checked his site too, apparently, with what I paid I was supposed to get a free domain, which I didn't.

    Is that grounds?

There is no harm in asking, especially if you didn't get your free domain. However, if you have nothing in writing (either in email or on the web site) which expressly states that you can expect to receive what you haven't, then I don't think the host is really obliged to give you your money back.

Perhaps you could have a poke around a number of similar-cost hosting services and see if they provide the things you are asking for. If they are, you can take that to your host, and explain that their competition is providing a better service...

first lesson on web hosts: NEVER go with hosting that a friend or friend-of-friend runs/helps run

    intent-group.net

    Very crap website, I know.

I got him to install it for me in the end after asking for a refund and about my free domain, which I can collect whenever.

not exactly Friendly Customer support is it!
if they want to keep customers then surley they should treat them well !
Iam also looking for Webhosting atm and do not want to end up with some host that wont help me out!

btw looking at IK:Host's sister company budget-host atm.

Edit just looked at the Intent-group.net site - its a pretty crap site to say the least but their servers dont get much better!
Personal websites are hosted on an Intel 2.0ghz processor with 512MB of ram.

wait untill there hosting 100 sites or more and half of them get really popular
