Should have made this a "Me / Not me" poll. Mods?

In my case, I probably would be able to, seeing as I have it at work (*waves from work chair*), and I have a fair amount of other things to do with my PC (Couple of games I started playing literally years ago and never finished, a little light software dev, etc.). I also attend a LAN monthly (Broadband, in this country, sucks to the extent that LANs are still well worth it), so that'd hopefully fill the multiplayer gaming quota.

I managed for about 5 days when I went to Tenerife... then I had to go and pay to use a crappy little computer to just check my mail and a few other things.

first year at uni, had only dial up which cost a bomb.

I used to use only about 20 hours a month, result was i went out a lot more, and virtually all my friends i go out with are not on my degree course (why is it comp sci/cyb people just don't go out?)

Well since I've moved house, a week and a half ago, I've not had broadband installed, and because BT are rubbish, it doesn't look like it'll get installed before the end of next week. Thank god for broadband at work and a phone that gets emails.

It's a huge pain though, I say "I'll just check the inter... oh, bugger" about three times a day at the moment. At least I'll have 24mbit when they do finally put it in, though.

Simple cure is go back to dialup, after five minutes staring into space waiting for something, anything to happen, followed by ten minutes of primal screaming over how slow it is, you'll not want to go near the internet all week. Repeat treatment as required.

I dont actually find dial up that bad. It can be simulated on boradband by downloading linux distros in the background

I went with out internet for a while. The first week was 100% gay, then I just got used to it. It wasnt an issue after I had realised that i didnt have it. Although I dont use my computer for anyhting offline so I didnt really turn my computer on after that.

I have done a few months back, when I first moved out to switzerland. I moved in to my new flat (Novartis provided accomation, like 5* student halls really ) and found a phone socket, great I think, i've got a phone line.

    Sort of

Pop down the local Swisscom (kinda like BT) shop and find an english speaking rep, who gives me all the details etc etc. Then we try to order it and oh, wait, i need a work permit first - but thats not going to come through for another 2 weeks at least! grr anyway that meant no internet for 2 weeks, and then another 3 weeks after my permit came for it to be activated grr

Still I survived, I had access at work so i could still do important things like post here (lol) and check my emails..biggest thing I missed was MSN, followed closely by online gaming. I had other things to do tho, played my guitar, drank, 'fresh air' by the rhine, drank, drank, listened to music, watched tv, read books, socialised with my mates...Theres plenty to do without the internet

However now I have 1meg internet at home and everythings back to normal
