I've used Real VNC in the past, but now i want to start getting to my PC from college, I'm starting to think more about security.
Any recomendations on others, or is the free virsion of RealVNC fine?

TightVNC or Ultr@VNC are pretty good too.

Does the work PC use Windows XP?Originally Posted by Trippledence
If so, the terminal services client pwn3s any of the VNC ones plus its encrypted out of the box.
Its more tollerant of a dodgy link and a LOT faster.

I use tightvnc too. FreeNX is really really good and faster but a bit harder to set up, both work between linux and windows.
Thats because they got it from Citrix originallyOriginally Posted by Agent

radmin is another that is good
Its windows XP Home, does it still have the remote desktop? Also i need to gonect from my college, so idealy the client shoulnt need installing. I found that was the case with RealVNC.
Only XP Pro has Remote Desktop
I think that you can connect to VNC using a web browser (it uses a Java Applet) but I have never tried this myself!
Well thanks for the rec's guys, will give them a try.
Another q. Whats the best port to use for a VNC server?
I used to VNC into my home network but it was limited and slow. Now i just SSH in via putty and tunnel VNC through that if i really do need a remote desktop.
Also if you do it this way, the sys admins will be only be able to see that an SSH tunnel is up but all the VNC data you send through it will be securly encrypted. Best way to securly VNC to home![]()

ultravnc here, converted only a couple of weeks ago from realvnc.
Really? ... thats strange as I use Media Centre Edition and connect from 1 PC to another via the Remote Desktop ProgramOriginally Posted by Cronus
You can also install the Remote Desktop Client on Windows 95 and upwards as microsoft have shown Here
I also used radmin in the past while helping a friend setup his gaming server company. I basically had to check configurations and scripts to ensure the game servers were running fine and check why they were crashing if they did.
