    Linksys WAG54GS Gateway lockups

    Hi all

Wondered if anyone here have ever experienced this problem on a linksys gateway

It's a Ruoter/Firewall/ADSL2+ modem all in one and fairly recent model.

There are NO new firmware updates for it ( I checked on their website ).

The problem I having goes like this:

Almost like clockwork, the gateway locks up EVERY 4 days ( give or take 1/2 day) and I can not access anything on the Wild Wild Web as a result of this. I can't even get into the Management Page ( Http based ).

I have to physically switch it off and back on again. Everything then works fine afterwards.

Any Idea why this could be happening ? I have "keep alives" enabled on the gateway, and it is even supposed to dial the ISP in the event of dropping the connection, but I doubt whether that is the problem.

Tech support is clueless and can only suggest a factory reset,, but even that does not work.

    Your help would be appreciated

I'm with ZEN internet BTW on a 512Kb ADSL link

    Cheers

I have had problems with similar routers where some changes have not fully been applied due to the flakey control systems, most notably on my WRT54G which causes lockups. One way to fix is to use the hard reset button on the unit then set only what u need to get the connection backup, in ur case probably username, password and protocol. May be shot in the dark as my problems are due to a complex port forwarding setup. Let us know how u get on

    Hi

I have done a few hard resets ( 3 to be exact ) and also done 1 or two firmware "re-installs" and started from scratch.

I have no port range forwarding set up. Purely http traffic.

It must be the gateway locking up, seeing that when it happens, I am unable to even access the web console to check the status of the gateway. As soon as it gets switched off and back on, it is fine for the next 4 days or so, and then we start all over again.

I'll probably replace it with something else after I return from holiday at the end of the month, which is really a shame because I like the look and size of this gateway.

    Cheers

give linksys a chance, may just be a bad electronic component internally, get it rma'd and see if the new one has a similar prob. I have always found that linksys/cisco are very good at network kit, spose its from necesity really
