    Which broadband router?

    looking for a router for a friend who wants to be able to share broadband connection and files etc between main pc and wireless lappy.

    Need one that is very easy to set up(he is fine with following a wizard etc but nothing too technical).

    It obviously has to be reliable and trouble free(and fast).

    Suggestions?
    I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

    Netgear, Alcatel, Linksys, Draytek. All do what they say on the box, read the specs.

    I've got a D-Link DSL-G624M, it's got wireless and 4 port 10/100 switch, firewall etc... it's also ADSL2 and has MIMO and 2XR technology for faster wireless connections with the right wireless cards. Had it about a month and now and am happy with it, was very easy to setup, I haven't had wireless before and quite easily setup the security etc...

    But don't upgrade the firmware, according to the other post! Not a great D-Link enthusiast (But then, like the other mfrs I mentioned, there are thousands in in use without problems...)

    I've got a DG834G which I've been really pleased with. Using a modified firmware which adds WOL support (get it from http://dg834wol.altervista.org ) - been using it for a couple of months and works a treat.

    I bought the US Robotics MaxG router and am very happy with it.

    It has a USB slot on it for your printer, so that you don't need to have one PC on, for other PCs to print.

    From my experience;
    Netgear generally have very simple easy to use configuration, sounds like a good choice for your friend, Linksys likewise.
    D-Link generally have an un-intuitive interface design for setting up
    Draytek make by far the best kit, and you need one for heavy P2P as they have large NAT tables and fast CPU's- but have a stonge age looking interface.

    The DG834G is the only comsumer grade router/wireless/gateway thing that will run as a VPN endpoint server if thats helpful. (IPSec Tunnel only, not PPTP)
