    Boosting WiFi a little...

    Situation is basically ~

PC on the outer reaches of my WiFi connectivity range, has very intermittent connections. I think it's just more a matter of it being too physically far away than anything else interfering with it...

Access point is : Netgear DG834G

Sooo, i'm thinking of picking up a bigger antenna, basically. Currently just using the stock 2db one, and am looking at 7db ones from Ebay. Something like this, although i'd obviously only want one.

So my question is thus : Is that likely to solve my issues? Bearing in mind that this PC only gets a very weak signal at the moment...

Or would I be better off with something else? Like say having a higher gain antenna on both the access point and the PC?

I upgraded my 2DB arial on my PCI wirelesscard to a 5DB one with a lead so I could poistion it better, boosted my signal strength from weak\poor to normal\good or so and not longer drops.

I did the same. Disconnected the antenna on the PCI card and bought a high-gain one with a 5ft lead. Signal went from very low to very good. A £20 antenna should sort it.

You can make you own antenna for less than £20 and it will be far superior to most things you can buy

Bi quad is probably the best for performance vs complexity

    http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000830068005/

I based mine on a combination of these, I have and N-type as the base (Maplin) on a piece of brass (currently trying one with a stiffer, flatter piece of Al) a ~15mm long 6mm brass tube (B&q do brass tubes) tube [outer] 2mm brass tube [inner] from it holding the copper biquad antenna part.

Anything I can just buy and stick on my PCI linksys card?

Don't think work safety services would be happy with a DIY jobby
