What do you need for a forum(when looking for a host)?

I am currently looking for a host for my site(which I am in process of building) and will at some point want to add a forum.

What will I need my host to have in order to run a forum and what is the suggested space I would roughly need(I know this depends entirely on how much it's used etc).

I'm looking at a host that has 10Gb space, 100gb bandwidth per year. Is this enough for a smallish forum?
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

That's more than enough for running a small forum, you could get away with 500mb and a few gig bandwidth if it was small (obviously you would need to upgrade over time though).

Depending on what forum software you use.. but most will need PHP and MySQL. But there is bulletin boards available for ASP and that use other databases. However the most common and useful ones use PHP and MySQL.

If your using something like PHPBB and open source bullitin board which is just as nice as vBullitin which is what they use here at hexus, PHPBB is also free to download www.phpbb.com.
Just make sure your web server is PHP enabled and has at least 1 mySQL database.
As for space and bandwidth that is way way way more than enough!!
I am currently have 1gb of diskspace and 60gb bandwidth! i feel thats more than enough for the time being.

What hosting company are you looking at just out of interest?
