    Ethernet hub powered by USB?

    There must be one somewhere?

I've found a few US sites selling them, but I'd prefer to buy UK wise.

    Anyone help?

Hmmm - we used to stock a Gigabyte unit, powered by USB - but no longer available unfortunately.

Depends how desparate you are, but Overclockers had one on their site a while ago, you could try there....

why would you even want one?.. I don't really like the idea of my network depending on a machine being powered on even though its small :S

A lot of them might of been stopped for this reason, you can only take power from the USB when you've requested it, and been told you can have it. until then you're only allowed 1 unit of power (penuts, nothing like enough to power a switch).

A lot of these devices don't bother doing that, they simply take it. This is fine with a lot of motherboards espesually those found on desktops. But when someone thinks "that would be dandy for my laptop" and they happen to put their laptop to suspend, this device dosen't know thats happened, and still trys to take lots of current, but the laptop PSU has actually switched mode and isn't putting anything like enough power out on the 5v rail. Well i'm guessing you can figure out what happens next!

As such its worth getting one from a known brand, as its only an extra cost of like £1 per unit to design them "properly" so they only take power when told they may. However this is rarely done.
