Question Sending Messages Over A Network??

Hi, I'd like to send messages through my home network to 2 other machines i am linked to, I am aware you can run command and type
    net send (computername) (message)
everytime i try that i get a message stating
An error occurred while sending a message to (computername)
The message alias could not be found on the network.

Yet if i run net view i can see the computers and the computernames are correct.

    Any ideas

If the other machines are running WinXP SP2 the firewall may be blocking it, or the messenger service is disabled.

If you use linux (or by any chance have it as a secondary partition) the mail [username] command works fine...

I think it was this I used to use:

    http://basslinesoft.com/

It was only free then there's now a free basic version bottom of download page. Win 98 and older had one built in - can't remember what it was called. This app works find so long as firewall allowing it - otherwise use MSN.

But post two covers all for the firewall blocking the cmd prompt one

Anywho there are loads of other free apps like this out.

Hi sorry i didn't reply before i forgot to get notifications, lol

Ok all 3 pc's are running XP SP2 I have tried disabling the firewalls but still no different.

When you mention messenger service are you replying to windows messenger???

As to downloading programs, i didn't want any other software as i know the operating system can do it on it's own.
