Question Confused about wired vs wireless, Linksys vs D-Link vs other

I am connected to cable internet via modem connected to a laptop running XP. I want to connect my other laptop (running XP) and my desktop (running ME) to the internet also. I have a Linksys wireless card for my laptop and a D-link direct connect card (currently being used by the host to connect to the modem). I bid on, and won, a D-Link 4 Port Ethernet Broadband Router with 4 built-in switches. Can I use the Linksys wireless card with a D-Link router? Can I use a wireless card with a wired router? What do I have to use to get my desktop connected? I feel really stupid about all of this. I thought it would be relatively simple, but I thought wrong!

you can't use wireless on a wired router unless you have a wireless access point, which it seems you don't, the route you have to go is wired....

plug the modem into the uplink port of the router, and each computer into any of the remaining switches on the router
