    Cheapest Broadband Package...

For their Christmas, we gave our grandparents a laptop. I've set it up on ppm dial-up for the moment, but wondered if there was a nice cheap broadband they could use. They'l only likely use the interent a couple of hours a month, it's mainly for looking up crossword clues, but I felt something faster than 56k might be nice.

    Anything to suit?

Metronet (www.metronet.co.uk) offers a low charge (£11.75/month) for basic use, then charge so much per megabyte up to a maximum charge of about £23/month.

Couple of hours at 1p/min is still only £1.20
Unless they really want something faster I probably wouldnt bother.

Their best bet to reduce the waiting time of dial-up is to use Onspeed. I used it for a year before going broadband and it was really excellent. Only costs a couple of pounds a month. In fact I'm having so much trouble with my broadband ISP (the dreaded e7even - don't go there!) that I'm thinking of installing Onspeed again.
