Bt Broadband + PS2 + Pc

Hi, I've just upgraded my bt broadband package and got a the voyager 2091 wireless router.

I've set it up the the router downstairs next to my ps2 which is connected to it by ethernet.

My pc in my bedroom upstairs is connected wirelessly. I am very disappointed with the drop in performance of my pc. The wireless connection (via a belkin wireless g network card) drops the connection regularly and is very slow compared to what I used to get.

I'm currently connected at 885kbps.
The speed I'm connected to the line through my router is 2272kbps.

Is there any way to speed this up on my pc? Or am I better moving the router upstairs and connecting to the pc via usb and running an ethernet cable down to the ps2. Obviously I would prefer not to have to run cables but due to the drop in performance not satisfied with the wireless set up.

Is an ethernet cable the same as CAT5e that I see online stores selling. Also I need around 20metres of the stuff any recommendations for online sites and how much this is likely to cost?

How many floors is the signal going through, and what sort of construction is the house? You might be better served by one of the pre-N/MIMO routers and cards, but if (as in the case of one guy I've set up) you're living in a 17th Century stone-built farmhouse, all bets are off...

house was built in 1900, the signal is going trough one floor and not very far. Think I may be better off going the wired route.
