Has your NTL connection got slower?

Recently i have noticed my connection with NTL has become a bag of ****e.
Im on the 2 Mbps package which ive been on for ages. The connection has always
been rock steady since i got it when it was 300 kbps to 700 kbps to 1 Mbps to 2 Mbps.

However today i have really noticed that its gone down hill ive been testing with and
without my router using adslguides test and other and also downloading from highbandwidth
    sites like microsoft etc.

Im getting consistantly under 1 Mbps and on average around 700 kbps. Its been ropey
ever since I think they started upgrading people to 10 Mbps but its getting worse all the time.
surely if im getting these troubles so are people with 10 Mbps if so what is point.

So how about others in the north essex area.

    use adslguide.org.uk 's speed test.

I'm on 1mbit and I got this using the adslguide.org.uk speed test:

    Downstream 555 Kbps (69.4 KB/sec) 599 Kbps (inc. overheads)
    Upstream 89 Kbps (11.1 KB/sec) 96 Kbps (inc. overheads)

    I'm up North

I normally just surf and read rubbish (no big downloads or online gaming at the moment) so I do not notice any slow down...

Well now it back up to 2 Mbps maybe people hammering the connection is pulling it
right down.... If this is the way its going to be I would have prefered them not to have
    bothered with upgrading.

    Downstream 944 Kbps (118.0 KB/sec) 1019 Kbps (inc. overheads)
    Upstream 86 Kbps (10.8 KB/sec) 92 Kbps (inc. overheads)

my connection been crap the last week, i thought it was due to NTL doing some maintaince in the area, hope it gets fixed soon, like you Kuma I been getting perfect service up until recently, I had NTL for good 3-4 years not, from 300kb, 700kb, 2mb.

I asked around another forum for help, though it was my modem acting up but seems like I ain't the only one with poor connection atm.

wanted to upgrade to 10mb but now would just be happy having my good old 2mb back.

Mines been rather poo of late as well, I too would rather have a solid 2mb connection than a flakey 10Mb one....
I have hit 4000+kbps on a few downloads tho which is nice....

Ive been noticing its flagging again im getting 1.4 Mbps (with overheads 1.5 Mbps) which
its consistantly hitting. In the past it was always 1.9 (2.05 Mbps with overheads) no matter
the time of day. so im losing 25 % late afternoon and evening nowadays.

My upload is exactly what it always is around 190 Kbps about 210 Kbps with over heads
Even when i was hitting only 700 Kbps when i did the original post the upload was the same.
It has to be higher network traffic since upgrades.

I wonder if its going to change or thats the way its going to be from now on.

mine has got slower aswell acturally (2mb ntl), i used to always hit about 240 kb/s downloading, never get close to 200kb/s now, even when using the bandwith test on adslguide, strangely though my upload speed hasnt dropped...

I think before when they did upgrades it was a little shakey but nothing like this. It is a
much bigger jump though. What exactly are they doing to the network are they sticking in
    new equipment to support it?

    still hitting @ 9 30 pm

    Downstream 1439 Kbps (179.9 KB/sec) 1554 Kbps (inc. overheads)

    Hello
I had big problems with my 2Meg service and kept complaining, with no results, until a nice man said I could have 10Meg for half price for 3 months.
Trouble was 10Meg was even slower.
After a modem reset was getting fast speed for about 20 minutes and then a stone plumetting drop to only about 36kbps.
Complained for weeks and got rubbish about it being a known nationwide proble, until nice man couldn't stop testing every possible factor.
In the end he got me an engineer who spent 2 hours not fixing things. Actually made it worse, 'cos when he left me I had no connection at all! Left me with a brand new blue cable modem and 2 power supplies.
But 10 minutes after he left my connection strangely came back.
    And first speedtest hit 9.62Mbps.
Moral: keep bugging them until you get lucky service.
    Cheers
    snedger

stick with it, I am sure whoever was having problems like mine NTL just doing something in your area, my connection was rubbish for a whole week, but now back to normal. at first I thought my modem had packed up, up until yesterday every address I run tracert on I was losing packets everywhere, just glad it working now.

after all the problems I hear about 10m, I doubt I upgrade..2mb is more than enough when its working ok.

hope all your problems get resolved soon, its a ***** when the net is down

Alot of recent connection dropping & slow problems was caused by a recent modem firmware upgrade that was pushed out to all people using the silver Ambit 100 & 120 modems. This upgrade was reversed after a week because of all the problems it caused.

A good place for support with NTL connnection problems is chetnet.co.uk. Don't go slagging NTL people off there though because they are NTL employees & tend to take it a bit personally.

I'm on 1MB on an old Pace STB - all is fine. Getting speeds near enough around 1MB all the time.
