Router - DHCP enabled?

Can anyone advise me on how to get my router to work on DHCP, its a Linksis BEFW1184 and it has a DHCP config page which simply says to click enable and away you go. However none of the PC's connected to it will pickup or acknowledge theres a DHCP service running.

Any ideas would be appreciatted because I'm no fan of static.

Are you computer's tcp/ip configured to get an IP address automatically ?

Just to let you know I'm an IT technician so I've done most of the stuff I should have done, however I've never used a dsl router before and wondered if there was a reason the DHCP doesnt work.

All machines are configured to obtain an IP.

WinXP is the O/S

page 30 would appear to have the information relevent to the routers DHCP server setup.

I apologise if I've picked up the incorrect model number, but you'll find that the model number you gave isn't on the linksys website.

You'll need to set a start point and an end point for your DHCP scope

Already done that m8, however my version doesn't have a scope just a starting IP and further 'DHCP clients allowed'.

Any other thoughts?

sounds odd - I've PM'd you for further details.

Looks fine those settings, Looked at my Neargear DG834 all it has is a "Use as DHCP Server" tick box, and starting and ending IP range.

Only problems i ran into was id turned off a few services
and telling the network card to Obtain IP and DNS automatically

so thats all applied and the router rebooted ?

I presume the DHCP client table shows current leases

No thats the thing, I rebooted it and everything else several times over the course of the evening without joy.

Woke up this morning, booted up... IP allocated. Erm...

Oddly everything now works.

I knew I hadn't done anything wrong, the router just wanted to get settled in to its new home I bet. Ahum.

I iwsh mine would..... Keeps setting its VCI level to 35 even when I set it to 38.... ADSL wont connect unless its set to 38.

Looks like a return to D-Link, just awaiting on their 2nd line tech dept to call me but that can take upto 5 days

I'm pretty happy with the Linksys kit I've purchased, to be honest I used to be a D-Link fan but this Linksys stuff is good for the money. Its also allowed me to run wireless XBOX in my bedroom which is nice.
