    Router prob after XP reinstallation

Can anyone help with this prob please? I have a BT Voyager 2100 ADSL router with 2 desktop PCs connected by wires and 2 laptop with wireless connections. All machines are running XP pro with SP2

I needed to reformat and reinstall XP on one of the desktops and now it cannot see the router. The router doesn't require any drivers so its not that and I have tried swapping the cables from PCs to router, but also no luck. All the settings on the 2 desktops appear the same but the reformated one doesn't know its connected to a router - ipconfig gets no result

    Any suggestions please

Do the lights on the router and pc show that there is a connection between them? Are the drivers for the pc network adapter correctly installed?

If you go into Network Connections in Control Panel, see if you Network Card is showing. If not, then you will need to find the drivers for it as the card is not installed.

If thats the case, you may have trouble working out what Network Card you have, or what drivers you will need. I have always thought that this happens with Old Network Cards as the drivers are not on the XP Disc, but i may be wrong.

I have some links to software that will scan your computer and tell you what hardware you have if you need it, so you can work out what drivers you need.

That, or it may be the network cable is damaged, or just loose?

the fact that ipconfig isn't getting any result is odd - I would expect an address in the 169.254 range.

Anyways, most likely cause is that your NIC drivers aren't installed as suggested above - check device manager, reinstall the drivers and all should be fine.
