Bandwidth Limiting

Hi!

I'm hardwired into a Linksys WAG345G and i've got a second computer downstairs connecting wirelesly to the router. What i'd like to do is restrict the amount of internet bandwidth the second compuetr gets so I can game uninterrupted. Is there an easy way to do this? Thanks,

Do you have access to the second machine to install software on it? (ie is it yours and are you allowed to install things on it )

If so then there are many options to limit the speed of that computer - netlimiter (google it) is one such example thats fairly configurable and easy to use.

If not, then you would need to add some more hardware - either replacing the router with one that lets you manage bandwidth, or putting another computer in the middle that can control the bandwidth.

I've used netlimiter in the past, very easy to setup.

Best of all you can apply individual speed limits to different programmes.

yeah I tried it out and it seemed to work, problem is its only a 28 day trial... any free solutions out there?

An option if you think you may need it is a router with QoS/Rate control that will let you set the kbps speed of each port or give priority to game ports
For example a Draytek vigor, and I believe some Linksys ones can have some custom firmware flashed on?

I bought a Netlimiter license 2 years ago, and I still use it to this day. Excellent piece of software.
