Exclamation Setting up Pipex ISP with DG834G Router

    Hi

I was using Pipex with the ADSL modem provided by Pipex.

    I have got a new Netgear Router DG834G .

Iam unable to configure the ISP to the router and setup a wireless connection.

I have tried the settings given by the ISP pipex.
However Iam unable to figure it out.

Please can any one help me out.

    Thanks in advance.

you need to connect the router to the adsl modem, the router cnanot act as a modem. So all you need to do is to connect a cable from your adsl modem to the uplink ethernet on the router.
    Hope this helps

Also these r d settings provided by pipex.

    protocol : PPoA

    Encapsulation:VCMUX

    VCI No : 38

Hmm, I think you should take back your router and find a wireless ADSL modem. A router is used to distribute the connection between other computers through one connection, these settings I am afraid will not help you to connect.

Have a look at the instructions that came with the router. but i think you have to do something as follows:

Plug Router into the telephone socket,
Plug the (yellow?) network cable into the back of the router and into the network port on the back of your computer,

fire up whatever browswer you use and in the address bar type:

    http://192.168.0.1

From there you can enter your pipex username/password, and hopefully it will connect. You dont need to use the modem provided by Pipex at all - the DG834 has one built in. Once you have got the router connected using the network cable you can then start to setup the wireless part. but get connected first

    HTH!

Unless ExceededGoku is mis-understanding (or I am), he is wrong.
The Netgear DG834G is FINE to use as an ADSL modem, as it's the one I use, also for Pipex.
It doesnt have a USB connection, but i'd always advise people to steer well clear of USB broadband anyway - just too flakey.
You are much better off doing what the DG834G does, and connecting that to your PC using Ethernet cables.
Even if you want to get a wireless connection (which is do-able), always start setting things up over a cable first to check the router/modem is connecting properly to Pipex.

    Good advice Streetster.

Flanders080, post back once you have done this (unless it doesnt work).

There is no need to use another modem has been said. I have used this router for my girlfriends house on Pipex and it works fine, I also have used it for many ISP's in my own house.

You aren't being clear as to how far you have got so far. Have you entered the details or not? When you got to the router status page then click connection status, are there any error messages?

This router with Pipex definitely works.

Once in the admin page at 192.168.0.1

Put in the details you listed:

    Under :BASIC SETTINGS TAB

    protocol : PPoA

    Encapsulation:VCMUX

    VCI No : 38

    VPI NO : 0

    - Put your login detail in the fields requested.

    - INTERNET IP ADDRESS – get automatically from ISP

    - DNS Address. Mark Use these DNS servers and put in the IP address that Pipex provide to you

Then do a test, its should take you to Netgears website if successful

If you currently have the ADSL modem connected directly to the PC via USB, then the best move would be to get an ADSL modem and wireless router combo (similar to what the OP had, although that was 3 years ago ).

If you do that then you'd connect the ADSL modem/wireless router to the telephone line, and then you could connect your PC and PS3 wirelessly (if you don't have wireless on your PC, you can connect it using an network cable instead), and then your PC would not need to be on for you to use the internet on your PS3.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.
