Blocking ports on router

My flates m8s think its funny to leave downlaods going over night, so i basically cant game. So i want to block the prts via the router. Which is a Vigor2200USB. I dont have a manual and im not sure how to do it.

i was just going to reccomend that! or if not..you can do it easily in your firewall..in advanced configuration normally or something like that.

Firstly, use start>run>cmd>"ipconfig /all" find "default gateway" and type the number into your browser. should be in the form xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. type in the username and password should be admin or root or something like that, just keep trying until u get in, then navigate to the port filtering page. I presume your flatmate uses torrents to download his files, therefore u need to find out what client he's using, then the port that he's using. Type this into the box and just set the range of ip's to 0 through to 255, apply these settings and port x will be blocked

Or you could speak to your houisemates and get them to use a good client (azureus microtorrent) and get them to set it up correctly (i.e throttle uploads to about 30% of capacity when you want to game)

30% downloads wont make a diff, i will still get ping jumps

its not usually ur download speed that restricts your gaming, as theres plenty of bandwidth to go around on the downstream. thats why herulach suggested restricting your UPLOADS, not your downloads, this should allow you to game properly when your flatmate is still downloading
