    Website Problem

I can no longer access www.webroot.com and spysweeper doesnt always update

I have BT broadband and have just been sent a bt voyager 2091 router i have been having the problem since installing it

my main secureity software is f-secure internet security 2006
    spysweeper
and I have most of the BT software

i have added it to trusted sites and also checked to see if any of my programs have blocked it
i cant find much info about the bt yahoo toolbar blocking thou

could the bt voyager 2091 be blocking it?

any other reason why it is now blocked and it used to work fine
if you need more info please ask for it
    any ideas?

oddly it done work in both internet explorer and firefox whihc i find really odd

    thanks in advance

It might ee a DNS problem, if you try specifiying dns servers on your own machine they **should** bypass the routers own..

    In windows XP
right click on "My network places" select properties
right click local area connection select properties
double click on "internet protocol TCP/IP"

and select the radio button in the bottom half of the popup that says
"use the following DNS server addresses"

enter them into the box and press ok..

then try using ie or firefox

If you need to check your host file go to "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc" and open host from within notepad or wordpad.

if there are any other ip in the apart from 127.0.0.1 they might be causing the problem (redirecting you elsewhere)

trying pinging www.webroot.com from the command line

    ie start, run, cmd

    ping www.webroot.com

they don't respond to icmp packets but you will see if the domain name resolve to an ip address

Pinging www.webroot.com [64.78.182.210] with 32 bytes of data:

if it does not resolve try

    nslookup

it should first contact the dns server you have defined if it does not that is likely to be nature of the problem
    then type
    www.webroot.com

the dns server to respond with the address for the website.

Betcha you can't access www.symantec.com and www.macafee.com too... Smells like a browser hijack to me. Try running Spybot and see what you turn up.
