Accessing my desktop from my laptop

I have a desktop wired to my router and my laptop conncted wirelessly.

Jus wondered if there was a way I could access my desktop from my laptop(see same screen on laptop that I would on my desktop) and access the same files/progs from my laptop that I have on my desktop.

If there is a way, how would I go about it?

Sure VNC..

there is a free version at www.realvnc.com you can see everything the client does and move te mouse cursor..

very nifty program

Just make sure you install the server application on your desktop and the client on your laptop..

that way you can watch everything someone does on your desktop and also freak them out by typing or moving the mouse for them

I think windows terminal services creates a new user session and thus allows someone else to browse the machine without the target machines having to user know without checking...

Remote Desktop Connection is very good. Everything runs on the remote system but displays on the local one. The only down side is when you connect remotely, the local session locks and if you unlock it, the remote connection disconnects. so only the laptop *or* the desktop can use the desktop at one time.

Yes, having the remote/local session disconnect when the local/remote session connects is rather annoying. But it does tell you and give you the options to stop the user logging in, plus it doesnt use much bandwidth if you do it over the internet.

Remote Administration is another good one, as it also builds in a file transfer client and messaging feature aswell as a remote control/display function. Its configurable on different ports very easily, secure and not bulky (fits on a floppy etc).
