Nildram playing the up and down game

Myself and a mate of mine (who lives about 100 miles away from me) are on Nildram and have been having issues with regard to it dropping the connection regularly, especially during the evening.

Anybody else having any issues with them? I've dropped them an email but no response yet.

It could be that they are moving you over to the ADSL max system.

Has the connection speed in the modem/router changed at all ?

I've not noticed any connection issues over the last few weeks on my Nildram line. I'm still at 2Mbs.

What do you guys think of them as ISPs go? I'm thinking about migrating from Demon as they are not yet offering MAX. Really would like something a little faster than my current 512k connection :/

not noticed any problems with my connection recently, but then we don't have the Max service on our exchange yet.

I really like Nildram, the only problem i've had in the past 3+ years with my connection was line drops caused by a cheap crappy router. There was also a couple of months in a row that my credit card was declined for no reason, but that is probably Mastercards problem. So all in all, no problems with Nildram themselves

Just moved over to Nildram from Pipex; chose the max dsl and am having the 10 day bt tests at moment. Know Nildram is owned by pipex but the service seems a lot better with Nildram.

I've been with Nildram for a few years now. Still on 2Mbs but they're upgrading everyone to Max over the next few months. I was a bit fearful when Pipex bought out Nildram a couple of years ago and I expected the quality of service to go downhill. Thakfully, it's stayed okay - perhaps not quite as good as it used to be but still very good (compared to Plusnet for example, which is the ISP for my other ADSL line).

Nildram support is quite good with knowledgable staff (compared to Pipex who I had a disastrous time with).

Mike - mine's exactly the same - I'm in Sheffield. It's ever since I regraded to an 8Mb line.

The connect will lag and give no data transfer for upto 5 minutes at a time during the evenings and sometimes will disconnect all together. Reconnecting the router manually (power off/on) doesn't seem to fix it either so it's something server end.

It can take up to 10 days for the line speed to stabilise after moving to ADSL Max. THis is because the exchange equipment is monitoring the line to see what the maximum sustainable rate will be.

While I'm sure that many people have migrated with few problems, there have been issues with thge migration process (frequent disconnects, loss os sync, very low download speeds etc).

Probably the best advice after a regrade is to leave the router switched on, go away and forget about it for 10 days, then see what you get. Remember that 8Mb/s is the maximum sync rate under optimum line conditions - in practice throughput will be lower than that - the service usually says UP TO 8Mb/s...

14 days and still counting for me for the testing; suppose have to expect some delay with the amount of people who have signed up for the new service.

Ive Been with Nildram for about 3 years and by all accounts i think they are one of the best ISPs on the market. I have also just been regraded to the MAX service and get a nice 6mb connection

    Right.

I got an email back from them explaining that my line was being tested and it should only take about 10 days. TBH since I sent them the email a few days ago it's only dropped once. Yes, my connection has been upgraded, although it's tends to vary between 2.5 and 3 Mbps connection speed. Guessing that's to do with the distance I am from the exhange though as although my exhange was previously 2Mbps compatible, i could only get 1Mbps before.

However, it is the only trouble I've had with them, and it's probably more to do with BT anyway.

Yeah it's not so unbearably bad for me so I'll let it be....if there no improvement in a month then I'll start making some calls.

I'm with mart haj86 on this one. I was with Nilly for 5 years before moving over to Be* last month.

Nildrams customer service and tech guys were great. They knew what they were on about if you had a problem and they'd even call you back when they said they would. Sometimes they'd even give me a social call just to see if I was happy
They started to shift over to MAX the week I left and I've got to say that the connection did get a little erratic even though I wasn't moved over myself. Go figure.

Be* is a totally different beast. Lovely Indian call centre with fellas maskerading as Steve, John and Adam(if you bug them enough they'll tell you their real names tho). Still I can't really complain tho. 20 quid a month for a 6 meg connection that would be faster still if my line wasn't so old.

But I know where I'll be heading back too if things do go south with Be*
