    Ping?

    Quick question.

As I've mentioned in another post, my stepdad's website appears to be down.

    www.railtrail.co.uk

the www.3dpixelnet.co.uk site (web host) also appears to be down.

However, when I ping both URLs, I do get a response, no lost packets.

Does this mean that the server is actually still technically up hardware wise, and it's just some software / configuration issue?

Could be that the webserver (apache?) has crashed or is foobared in some other way

depends on how the server is setup. You could just be pinging a perimter firewall that woudl usually forward request the the revelent internal box.
or the actual web server service may not have started etc.

    I'd get onto the hosts

Best of British - I think I used to use pixelnet a while back and they took over a week to get back to me (during which time I couldn't do chuff all...) - it turned out that there was a hardware failure on the server (which was in the US) and they (in Belgium) didn't notice it.

Of course, I could simply be confused, but best of luck anyways!

EDIT - Think I was confused - I think it was PixelHOST that I used to use. Sorry!

Those details are actually out of date. Could they be removed please?

We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with our services. Email is fully functional, its just apache (the webpages) that's at fault. We're working very hard to get normal service resumed asap.

Any customers that do wish to contact us, can do so at online@3dpixelnet.com

Plesk is up on port 8443 so you should be able to do domain admin or grab a backup (just in case). I'm also somewhat surprised to see MySQL not bound to localhost.
