Chat Software

Right guys i'm just wondering if anybody knows of some webbased software to create a chatroom. Its for a small community and we dotn want to pay anythign so free software only please! Anyway I have had a look around myself and I can only find java based web applets for irc, witch isnt very suitable because most of these people arent computer enthusiasts and it would require me or somebody else to stay in there all the time to kick the spammers out!

For live chat i dont believe you will find anything better than the java irc clients.
You can use a bot to keep the room under control but ive never used one, and sadly couldnt comment if it would work with a Java base client.
If its for a small community then i wouldnt have thought spamming would be a major issue.

Haved you considered just having a forum (like this one?)
May be more suitable if its only a small community.
If its that small why dont you all chat on msn etc

Yes this is a small forum community that wanted a live chat, I set up an irc channel and found a nice java irc client for them as I couldnt find anything else, but they dont seem interested in the live chat now, they seem to have changed there minds, nevermind thanks for the helps guys, i'll look into yahoo groups anyway just incase they change ther minds..
