Yeah, been fiddling with the attenna, but to no avail... looks like I'll have to eventually get meself an AP, like Jiff said...
Nevermind, its good enough for browsing, which is what it was for...
Dunno what WEP enabled speed were like, I couldnt get it to connect like that... still, am reading a tutorial on it now, so we'll see.....

An AP can extend the range - but so can a good external antenna
as long as browsing works well on it Deckard Junior should be happy :)

Its got an external antenna, which is positionable, so a touch of fidlling has given me a 'very good' (so windows says) signal, at each end, but I only get 1.0 Mbps speed... so it must be a distance/obstacle thing....

netspeed.exe ~128k
I find Netspeed is an invaluable tool to show network performance (to/from one PC) and to test/visualise what is happening once I have a link.

which reminds me,
for some cards (and ext devices for that matter), it is possible to lock the speed at a certain setting.
ie: lock and test at the slowest speed. once all is well, knock it up a notch or two, retest and so on. it requires reconfiguring at both ends during the testing, but it could be worse.
