    Wireless Network Problems

My dad just got a Dell Inspirion 640m and decided that he wanted to take advantage of its wireless capabilities. So I purchased a Netgear DG834G ADSL router. Everything was going well, I'd set it up, turned on all the required security features and away it went, mobile internet anywhere in the house.

The problem started today. I got home to the question of:

"Why can't I connect to the internet?"

Checking my dads laptop I see it's lost it's connection to the router. So I refresh the network list and ours doesn't appear, but the 2 secured and 1 unsecured networks on our road do. So I take the laptop upstairs and it still won't see our router. I restart the machine and as it's powering down, it picks the network up. No a whole lot of good. Of course I wasn't unable to replicate that feat. I also rebooted the router, turned on SSID broadcasting, took off MAC filtering and double checked every wireless setting on the router. It has worked, so why suddenly stop? Has anyone got any ideas?

Try changing the channel the router is set to. My setup generally works well with the same router, but on sometime my laptop just won't hold a connection. There are quite a few other networks in my area and it just seems to get confused.

Thank you so much. I changed the channel the router and laptop use. It started searching for new networks and up ours came. Cheers again.

no problem. if it happens again, just do the same. Someone in the area will change their setup or someone new will get wireless and screw up your setup eventually.
