My first question is what the hell kind of network are you building that needs that amount of cat6? It's tricky stuff and almost all people are better off with cat5e (unless you're doing 10Gb to the desktop in which case I'll happily call you certifiably insane ).

    Second, have you tried Maplin?

yep tried them dont do modular and not in bags of 100 or so , firstly ive got over 1.2km of brand rex cat 6 cable for nowt of a guy on a school contract cos the boxes had collapsed and they couldnt pull the cables as easy as they liked so it was going to get binned and i offered him to bin it , in my mates car to house

im re doing my own network of several computers laptops and xbox 360's then im going to network a printer get a gigabit switch and some nas boxes and then every tv is going to have a media center mini pc instead of hifi's and dvd player / recorders in each room and all media will be shared , my mates will see the bling and ease of use and want the same so al do it for a small fee

second coz if ive got the best cable around theres no point terminating it with crappy plugs

plus i like the idea of the modular ones aswell look so easy to use im still a bit fiddly with the normal plugs

and just coz i want em

and just coz i want em
The best geeky reason there is

I was concerned this was a badly thought out commercial network, without meaning to be offensive I looked through your posting history and came to the conclusion you're not qualified to build a "proper" (i.e. someone's business is depending on it) cat6 network. I'm not either, I'm just qualified enough to know I'm not qualified enough

Building one at home as an e-penis extension is perfectly acceptable though, especially if you got the cable free

As you're not really using cat6 for what it's meant for you shouldn't have to be as careful as if you were going to be running 10Gb through it but you still can't afford to be sloppy. If you kink it, bin it.

Oh, and try Radio Spares, not sure if that's exactly what you want but it's the best I can do.

one of my mates done telecoms and networking for a few years but packed it in for a different career path plus ive got some good pro tips from the installers of this cable i got

i chose cat6 because i have power cables and twin coax's running everywhere near my cables and its proven in many tests that ca6 is just that wee bit better with signal quality and less packet loss

greedy and probably not much faster than a cat5e but then my dual core opteron thatclocks to 2.8 mostly runs at 1.5ghz and 1v for about 90% of the time , we all like a bit of overkill

and the cable im sure i seen is 90 odd quid without delivery a drum from an online supplier

its not normal cable its got a plastix cross section seperating the 8 wires into 4 groups of 2 and is supposed to be as good as any cat 6 can be so for free im laughing

thanks for the links though lads i will be checking them out!

i want the best sheilded plugs and boots for bling and sturdyness

i have a good network cable tester too so i will be fine and i like doing it when bored

arthur what lengths do you need and il send em off to you for the cost of plugs n postage and a lil bit of my time

much cheaper than those on ebay as i aint payin for cable

If you want to get the best from the CAT6 cable you might as well spend the extra and get the plugs from someone like RS. You might as well get the quality die and die tools from them as well.

RS sell the following (Hi Rose)- 436-1387 cost £1.06 each for 125 but the termination tool costs £261

Or they sell Sentinel range - 408-6777 UTP at 50p ea che for 150
    408-6799 STP at £1.26 ea for 150

The termination tool costs £94 (part number 368-9640) and you will need the die set for it part number 342-4869) which costs £28.65) All prices plus VAT.

    Details on http://rswww.com

You might also find something a little cheaper here http://www.minitran.co.uk/ but I haven't searched the site myself. Look under structured cabling and tooling.

There are cheaper tools and plugs around - but if you want to get the best from the cable...

Or you could sell the cat 6e on E bay and use cat 5 where the plugs and tools are much less expensive and the cable more robust!
