    Ad-hoc network?

Right, basically I have my uni internet connection coming into my desktop via wired ethernet and was wondering whether it would be possible to use my wireless card to act as an access point and enable my laptop to share the internet connection. I've tried setting up an ad-hoc connection but never seem to be able to get past "Acquiring network address..." any ideas?

edit - im pretty sure it was SP2 that added WPA ability. Use that over WEP in the tutorial above - other than that, it should be pretty much the same.

I do that with my iBook and a desktop.

However I set ICS on the Desktop PC, and set up the ad-hoc network on the iBook. I then have the Desktop join the ad-hoc network.

    Its less hassle.

Don't use DHCP try setting the IP's statically?

Make sure they are on a different segment to your wired lan connection. I did this at uni and used ICS through my desktop.

Also - are you using a firewall, even windows firewall ?
If so, try disabling it just for testing.

Ive been looking around for an easy way to do this, and there used to be a piece of software called PCtel Segue SAM which allows wireless adapters to become WAP's . . . unfortunately they're no longer on the market and I cant find a copy anywhere

I cant use the ICS on the designated machine either because of the way the network has been setup, it would take too long to reconfigure where the new 192.168.0.1 to make way for ICS. . . .why doesnt ICS allow you to choose a different IP ?!
